Time-limited business access
How Fortified ID can support time-limited business access.
Temporary access is often needed for projects, assignments and time-limited work tasks. Time-limited business access helps the organization grant access when it is needed and remove it when the need ends.
Use case
Section titled “Use case”Many types of access are granted for a temporary need, such as projects, consulting assignments, substitutions or other time-limited work tasks.
When access is no longer needed, it is often forgotten and remains longer than intended. This increases the risk of excessive access, unnecessary access to sensitive resources and gaps during audits and compliance reviews.
Organizations therefore need to manage temporary access as a controlled process. This can include ensuring that:
- temporary access has a defined end date
- access automatically ends when the need ends
- users do not retain access longer than necessary
- responsible people can follow up and extend access when needed
- temporary access can be reviewed and traced afterward
The result is better control over time-limited entitlements, reduced risk of lingering access and clearer evidence for follow-up.
How Fortified ID supports this
Section titled “How Fortified ID supports this”Fortified ID Control can be used to request, approve, extend and revoke time-limited access. Forms can collect information such as resource, purpose, start date and end date, while Approval Flows can control who should review and approve the request.
Schedules can automatically revoke access when the validity period expires. Business Rules can apply different rules depending on resource, user or business need, for example requiring additional approval for sensitive resources.
Reporting and Auditing can provide evidence for following up requests, approvals, extensions and removed access.
Fortified ID Access can complement the process when temporary access applies to sensitive systems or resources. Strong authentication or step-up authentication can be used when requesting, activating or using the access.
