Resource ownership governance
How Fortified ID can support clear ownership of groups, roles and resources.
Groups, roles, applications and other resources need clear owners so access decisions can be made and followed up. Resource ownership governance helps the organization keep responsibility relationships up to date over time.
Use case
Section titled “Use case”Groups, roles, applications and other resources often lose clear owners over time. Organizational changes, staff turnover and changing responsibilities can leave resources without a responsible person.
When ownership is missing, it becomes difficult to:
- approve access
- perform certifications
- manage changes
- follow up usage
- ensure compliance with internal rules and external requirements
Organizations therefore need to manage resource ownership as part of governance work. This can include ensuring that:
- groups, roles and resources have defined owners
- responsibility relationships are kept up to date over time
- resources without owners are identified and followed up
- responsible people regularly verify their ownership
- access decisions can be connected to the right responsible person
The result is clearer responsibility, better decision evidence and increased traceability around identities, entitlements and resources.
How Fortified ID supports this
Section titled “How Fortified ID supports this”Fortified ID Control can be used to identify, update and follow up ownership of groups, roles and other resources. Pipes and Valves can process information from directories, applications and other data sources to find resources that lack defined owners.
Schedules can initiate recurring controls and notifications around missing or outdated ownership. Forms can be used to register, update and verify responsible people, while access certification can be used to confirm that resource owners are still correct.
Approval Flows can involve resource owners in access processes and other decisions. Reporting and Auditing can provide evidence for following up responsibility relationships, changes and decisions over time.
Fortified ID Access can complement the process when resource owners review or approve sensitive access. Strong authentication or step-up authentication can be used when the decision requires a higher security level.
